Simple Christmas Homemade Gift Ideas!

No matter your age Christmas brings out the child in all of us. Here are some simple DIY crafting projects you can enjoy, no matter your age.

*Parents, please be sure to always supervise your children when working with scissors, an Exacto knife, candles, matches, and your oven -etc!

Let's start with a Homemade Christmas Card!

There's nothing like something homemade. Maybe I'm biased, but receiving a card that is homemade with words of love speaks volumes.

You Will Need:

Stock paper

An Exacto knife

Rice paper, Christmas wrapping paper, or crafting paper

A pencil

You can buy stock cards here, or simply fold and cut to size your desired card by using thick colored paper, which you can buy here. You can also choose to use cards and envelopes pre-made by clicking here.

Once you have your card, draw your Christmas tree design using a pencil.

*Then open and lay your card flat on a flat surface that you can cut on, such as a butcher block or an old magazine. You want to be sure to do this so you ONLY cut through the FRONT section of the card.

Carefully using your Exacto knife, cut out the areas you would like to see a different color paper, like in the image below.

Once you have attached your design, then open the card.

Cut and glue strips or a block of paper to the inside of the card, and leave it open to dry.

And there you have it, a simple but heartfelt Christmas card.

Homemade Mason Jar Candle Holder

I love mason jars. They are so useful for so many projects. And simply handing a mason jar with a candle can add a decorative look and feel to your Christmas table or cozy Christmas themed home.

Simply buy your desired amount of mason jars.

You can try these:

Add twine around the top of the jar and simply drop a tea candle in.

You can be more creative and add sand, shells, or pine cones in the jar and use an electric tea candle for a more appealing effect!

Mason jars are also great to add flowers or "fo-berry-flowers" to brighten up a dinner table.

Homemade Candle Decorating

I love to craft, and in this video I share a simple way to jazz up a plain old candle. Depending on your theme this Christmas, get creative decorating! It makes a perfect gift.

What you will need:

Glass jar or mason jar

Candle, real or electric

A glue gun

Scissors

For this video, burlap, lace, and stick on flowers. Explore our store for decorative ideas here.

Finally, who doesn't LOVE Homemade Cookies?

Every year we look forward to our Christmas traditions, especially making cookies with Grandma. This year we are trying our hand at making what I like to call Almond Crip Cookies. Simple and delicious, and they last for weeks! Well, that's if we don't eat them all with a yummy glass of homemade almond milk. If you live in Austin, you will want to try my sister-in-law's Fronk Milks. They are perfect for the holidays. They have fresh Farmhouse Delivery in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Waco, Temple.

Almond Crip Cookies

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large egg whites, room temperature

  • a pinch of kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons castor sugar (fine granulated sugar)

  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup almond slices

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325F. Line baking sheet with silicone baking mat or parchment paper.

  2. In a small mixing bowl, beat egg white, salt, vanilla extract, and sugar until foamy. Whisk until sugar is completely dissolved. Whisk in flour until no lumps. Then, gently fold in almond slices and butter.

  3. Spoon 1 tablespoon of batter onto a prepared baking sheet and spread batter into a 2 to 3-inch circle. (I used a little offset spatula to spread them.) Make sure the almonds flakes are not overlapping. Spoon the rest of the batter on the baking sheet with each cookie at least 1-inch apart. (I was able to cook about 9 per tray.)

  4. Bake 9 to 12 minutes depending on their size, rotate baking sheet once during baking. Bake until slightly golden brown. Remove from baking sheet and cool completely on wire rack. Cookies will crisp up once completely cool. Enjoy!
